Global Stocks Mixed on Monday

9/27/11 (AEIN) The trends of different stock indices around the world varied on Monday in response to various regional economic conditions. Although hopes of an end to the European debt crisis have increased, a solution remained well beyond reach.

Most American and European stocks were up, due to optimism related to the most recent efforts to resolve the debt crisis in Europe. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 272 points. State radio reported that Chinese stocks were down because of concerns regarding the Chinese economy, particularly the real estate sector.

Finance officials from Europe were unable to obtain a solution to the E.U. debt crisis during International Monetary Fund talks, according to VOA. NHK reported Tuesday that the Japanese Finance Minister stated that Japan may be willing to assist Greece, which remains mired in debt and economic hardship.
