9/29/11 (AEIN) A celebration was recently held in Guyana to mark the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Guyanese President Bharrat Jagdeo, Chinese ambassador Yu Wenzhe and other officials attended the event at the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown, the Government Information Agency reported late Wednesday.
Jagdeo met with Wenzhe and toasted the anniversary. The President praised Chinese people as progressive and industrious, saying that Guyana will always welcome them. He also said that China has long been a friend of Guyana and helped support its development. The Chinese ambassador spoke about the recent China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum which Guyana and several neighbors took part in.
China and Guyana have maintained friendly relations for thirty-nine years. China recently supplied various loans, grants and donations of equipment to the South American nation. Meanwhile, the government of Guyana has decided to purchase Chinese-made computers to supply to low-income families in exchange for community service work.
