Vietnam: Public Transit to Expand, Improve

10/7/11 (AEIN) The government of Vietnam plans to enhance and expand the public transportation systems in major cities. The Ministry of Transport aims to reduce the congestion of traffic and reduce auto accidents, the official news agency reported on Friday.

The transport ministry has initiated campaigns to promote the use of buses and educate the public about traffic rules. It will help the Hanoi Transport Corporation take "drastic measures" to raise the quality of bus service, improve the location of bus stops and prevent overcrowding at commuting hours. Every year, people in Vietnam's cities obtain many more cars and motorcycles.

Hanoi is the second largest city and the capitol of Vietnam, while Ho Chi Minh City has the most residents. About one out of four Vietnamese people live in cities, according to Encarta. Vietnam's population is projected to exceed 104 million by 2025.
