10/26/11 (AEIN) General Electric recalled approximately four-hundred and seventy Monogram Pro Rangetop with Grill appliances in North America on Tuesday. A problem with the burners can cause explosions to occur, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The recalled models have produced at least six explosions, causing some kitchen cabinet damage but no injuries. The joint Canada-U.S. recall affects all models of this type that run on LP (propane) or have been converted from natural gas to use LP. The rangetops were made in Mexico and sold during mid-2008 through 2011 at prices ranging from $3,400 to $4,700 U.S. dollars (Canadian prices may vary).
GE is offering a free repair to correct the problem. Owners of the recalled product may contact them by dialing 866-645-3956 on a weekday, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Eastern. The rangetops should not be used until the problem is corrected.
