The AEIN is a new service that provides a fast, efficient, ad-free alternative to the World Wide Web. It runs quickly on almost any PC-compatible computer or Internet connection and offers news, weather information, computer tips, online games, recipes, message boards, and more. You can connect to it using your existing ISP.
This service includes special information and features for the users of Tandy computers and software. They include the following...
You can find detailed technical information on the Tandy 1000 TL/2, TX, SX, and RLX on the AEIN, as well as original press releases announcing various other Tandy computers. There are forums for discussing Tandy PC-compatibles, TRS-80s, DOS, and DeskMate. | ![]() |
The AEIN's e-books include classics like "Sherlock Holmes", "Alice in Wonderland", "The Call of the Wild", "Walden", and "The Jungle"; they're also split up into 31K or smaller text files, so you can view them with limited memory or a basic word processor. All file downloads are zipped and capped at 500K.
The text and graphics on the AEIN automatically resize to fit your monitor and video resolution, so the pages and photos look good even at 640x200. They're especially sharp at 640x350 or 640x480 in DeskMate. This removes the need for horizontal scrolling as well. There are also low-resolution bitmap images and line animations.
When tested on a Tandy 1000 TL/2 with DeskMate 3.03, loading pages on the AEIN was surprisingly fast. The speed difference between it and a Pentium III was negligible. Members have successfully used it on 386, 486, and 8088 systems as well. This proves what is possible when efficient programming is applied and advertising eliminated.
Even if you have a Tandy computer that isn't equipped for Internet access, you can still use the above-mentioned clipart, templates, programs, and e-books on it. The AEIN is also accessible from Windows 95 and up. It's a good resource for information on using and maintaining such computers as well.
